Sniper Training System (STS) The Sniper Training System (STS) is a self-contained simulation trainer for Army 5.56 mm, 7.62 mm and .50 cal sniper weapon systems. The trainer is low cube, day or night capable, and requires no special facilities for training. Snipers train with their standard issue weapons and optical sight systems. Firing is simulated by a weapon-mounted, eye-safe laser. The sniper or instructor receives instant feedback via the computer monitor. The STS incorporates a ballistics program that adjusts the point of impact for each weapon and ammunition combination based upon real-world variables such as wind, slope, altitude, and weather conditions. Instructors enter ballistic variables into the scenarios to challenge the shooter to make necessary sight adjustments to achieve a target hit. Targets are properly scaled for range estimation at clearly specified training distances (by Mil-dot or other reticle). Target presentations seen by the sniper correspond to the display on the computer screen in scale, color, and wind references. Additional targets may be made and scaled by the user for mission-specific training. The STS supports in-depth after action reviews using a full feature “trace mode” and selectable mil-dot reticle or minute of angle (MOA) grid overlays for shot placement analysis.
