Laser Marksmanship Training System (LMTS) Report
(August 13, 1999)--

MPRI Status Report
Evaluation and Test Results (08/13/99)

1) Ft. Benning (Mar-May 98) - 2/19th INF (1st ITB) compared LMTS to conventional IET training methods (Weaponeer / MACS). Results showed LMTS

* Doubled number of expert qualifications (7 perfect scores in one platoon)

* Cut 'BOLO' rate by 78%

* Cut average number of rounds required to zero M16s by 33%

POC is LTC Howle.

2) Ft. Jackson (Apr-May 99) - 2/60th INF compared to conventional IET training methods. Results showed that LMTS:

* Exceeded all prior training standards

* Increased number of 1st time 'GO' by over 20%

* Cut # of 'refire' days' required by 98%

POC is LTC Kinle.

3) US Army Reserve (Aug 99) - 319th Engineers served as test unit for evaluation of LMTS in sustainment training role. Army Research Institute (ARI) monitored test. Results showed LMTS:

* Equipment works flawlessly; Can support training in the field

* M16 Course of Instruction validated

* 93% qualification rate vs. 64% in prior year (45% improvement)

POC is MSG Riley.

Numerous other tests and evaluations conducted by other Army units (Ft. Know, Ft. McClellan), other Services (US Navy, USMC, USAF), and other nations (Royal Australian Navy, British Army). All tests have shown LMTS to be a very effective small arms training system.
